City Centre Public Transport Improvements

McGinty & O’Shea Ltd. recently commenced work on the ‘City Centre Public Transport Improvements’ contract for client, Cork City Council. Value of the works is approx. €4m.

The key objective of this project is to improve the general vibrancy of Cork City Centre in order to promote sustained economic growth, to deliver a more attractive environment for residents, shoppers, visitors and tourists alike and to help encourage sustained inward investment through 1) the re-allocation of road space to ensure a better balance between the different transport modes serving the city and 2) the management of through traffic within city centre streets.

Works generally consist of road & footpath realignment, replacing footpaths, resurfacing road surfaces, construction of enhanced public spaces, new public lighting network, new bus and cycle lanes and replacing existing traffic signals network.
